Updated request for using the name Prošek

Croatian member of the European Parliament, Tonino Picula, continues to help Croatian winemakers in protecting Prošek by lobbying for the return of its real name.

Let's remember that because of the Italians, who protected their prosecco, the name Prošek disappeared from the assortment of winemakers when Croatia joined the European Union.

Nevertheless, our winemakers, led by the Dalmatian Cooperative Union and representative Tonino Picula, updated the request for the use of the name Prosecco.

Regarding the formalization of this request, Picula commented: "I tried so that, along with a list with extensive arguments, a bottle of high-quality Prošek was also found on the table of Janusz Wojciechowski, the European commissioner for agriculture, who accepted this argument with full understanding. He considers Croatia's 'actions' at the European Commission to be realistic.

"Prošek and prosecco are two different products that are not direct market competitors and the chances of the average European customer switching between them are, indeed, minimal to none," added Picula.

"And that gives winemakers hope that Prošek will return home!"
