"As a participant of two macro-regional strategies, Croatia is the bridge between the EU Strategy for the Danube Region and the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region. Both strategies, the Danube region consisting from 5 non-EU and Adriatic-Ionian with 4 countries, represent an excellent platform for cooperation and therefore need to be catalysts of the continuation and revitalization of the EU enlargement process.
But, in addition to existing examples of good practice, both platforms need to realize their full potential. The implementation report discovers resource issues, managing and taking responsibility. Stronger administrative support is needed for development and financing the projects, better co-ordination of relevant funding sources and additional resources. This would ensure strategic projects for the development of transport and energy infrastructure and strengthen connectivity", said Picula.
