The European Citizen's Prize was given to the Croatian Transplant Association, which holds Croatia at the very top of the number of transplantation and Tvrtko Barun, head of the Jesuit Refugee Service in Southeast Europe. MEP Picula nominated the Transplant Association for this award.

"This prize shows what should be the true content of the European Union and what are the examples of humanity and values that should be built in the basis of debates on the future of Europe. Croatia, as the youngest member of the EU, has so much to offer when it comes to solidarity. Thanks to Croatian Transplant Association, Croatian transplant medicine is at the top on the European and global level and giving the European Citizen's Prize to the Transplant Association, we also give this reward to volunteering, humanity and excellence!", Picula said at the ceremony.
