For oceans and seas without plastic!

Between 150 and 500 thousand tons of waste per year pollutes the sea within the EU. That is why probably the most intriguing exhibition was opened in the European Parliament in Brussels, with exhibits of waste found in European seas, to raise public awareness on danger of this global problem. The exhibition "Ocean Plastics Lab" was organized by Intergroup for Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas (SEARICA), and was opened by the Vice President of SEARICA for the Islands, MEP Tonino Picula.

"Although the pollution problem is globally recognized, this exhibition that shows marine waste without embellishment, reminds us vividly how big is the challenge of tackling with this problem! In addition for recalling the scope of the problem, it is a warning what can and must be done. We must unite, involve stakeholders from all levels and, as soon as possible, release our oceans and seas from waste", said MEP Tonino Picula and presented worrying statistics.

SEARICA is organizing a series of activities this week to warn how between 150 and 500 000 tons of waste anually pollutes the seas in the EU! Every year, Europe generates about 25.8 million tonnes of plastic, and only 30 percent of this waste is recycled.
